Drug intelligence / Profile preview
mRNA-1273.214 (elasomeran + imelasomeran) is a bivalent messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine developed by Moderna to provide protection against COVID-19. It is a 1:1 combination of two mRNA candidates: mRNA-1273 (elasomeran), which encodes the prefusion-stabilized spike (S) glycoprotein of the ancestral SARS-CoV-2 strain (Wuhan-Hu-1), and mRNA-1273.529 (imelasomeran), which encodes the spike protein of the Omicron BA.1 variant. The vaccine is encapsulated in lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) and is designed to elicit a broader neutralizing antibody response against circulating variants of concern compared to the original monovalent vaccine. Clinical trials demonstrated that a 50-μg booster dose of mRNA-1273.214 met all primary endpoints, showing superior immunogenicity against Omicron BA.1 while maintaining a safety profile consistent with the original Spikevax vaccine.
