Elastin peptide refers to short chains of amino acids derived from the hydrolysis of elastin, a key structural protein responsible for elasticity in tissues such as skin, blood vessels, and lungs. These peptides are typically obtained from animal sources (e.g., fish like bonito) or engineered synthetically. Elastin peptides have been studied for their potential anti-aging effects on skin by promoting fibroblast proliferation and enhancing endogenous elastin synthesis. Clinical studies indicate that oral supplementation with fish-derived elastin peptides can reduce wrinkles, improve skin hydration, and decrease pigmentation without significant adverse effects[6][8]. Engineered variants such as elastin-like polypeptides (ELPs) are also used in drug delivery systems due to their biocompatibility and tunable properties[2][4]. Topical formulations containing specific sequences of elastin-derived peptides have shown efficacy in improving wrinkle depth and skin firmness[8].
