Eldecalcitol + minodronate is a combination therapy for osteoporosis, consisting of two active pharmaceutical ingredients. Eldecalcitol (ED-71) is a vitamin D analog that binds to the vitamin D receptor with less affinity than 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 but has higher affinity for vitamin D-binding protein, resulting in potent inhibition of bone resorption and increased bone mineral density[6][4]. Minodronate is a third-generation bisphosphonate that inhibits farnesyl pyrophosphate synthase in osteoclasts, leading to apoptosis of these cells and suppression of bone resorption[3][5]. The combination has been shown in clinical studies to increase lumbar spine and hip bone mineral density more effectively than monotherapy with either agent alone[2][3].
