eledoisin + carnitine

Eledoisin + carnitine is a combination ophthalmic formulation investigated for the treatment of iatrogenic dry eye disease, particularly ocular discomfort syndrome secondary to chronic use of benzalkonium chloride (BAK)-preserved glaucoma medications. The formulation contains eledoisin, a tachykinin neuropeptide and neurokinin (NK) receptor agonist that acts as a secretagogue to stimulate tear production, and carnitine, which serves as an osmoprotectant to mitigate the effects of tear film hyperosmolarity. The eye drops typically include additional osmolytes and lubricants such as taurine and sodium hyaluronate to restore physiological osmolarity and improve ocular surface health. Clinical evaluation in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) has demonstrated significant improvements in tear production tests, including the Schirmer test and Fluorescein Breakup Time (FBUT), alongside a reduction in symptom severity.
