Overview

*Elettaria cardamomum* extract, commonly known as cardamom extract, is a botanical substance derived from the seeds of the green cardamom plant. It is characterized by its rich content of bioactive compounds, including 1,8-cineole and alpha-terpinyl acetate, which confer antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. In therapeutic research, the extract is investigated for its neuroprotective effects, particularly its ability to reduce neuroinflammation by lowering levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as Tumor Necrosis Factor alpha (TNF-α) in the hippocampus. Preclinical studies suggest that when used as an adjunct to anti-obesity treatments like orlistat, it may help mitigate cognitive impairments and memory dysfunction associated with high-fat diets and obesity.
