Elica-M

Elica-M is a topical combination pharmaceutical product consisting of mometasone furoate, a potent synthetic corticosteroid, and miconazole nitrate, an imidazole antifungal agent. Mometasone furoate provides anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive actions by acting as an agonist at the glucocorticoid receptor, thereby inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators. Miconazole nitrate exerts its antifungal effect by inhibiting the enzyme lanosterol 14-alpha demethylase, which is essential for fungal ergosterol synthesis, leading to cell membrane disruption. This combination is specifically utilized for treating inflammatory dermatoses where a secondary fungal infection is present or suspected. In the context of clinical research at Cairo University, Elica-M was evaluated in a Phase 3 trial for the treatment of chronic paronychia, comparing its efficacy to intralesional injections of triamcinolone and fluconazole.
