Overview

Elipovimab (formerly known as GS-9722) is a first-in-class, effector-enhanced, broadly neutralizing monoclonal antibody targeting HIV-1. It was developed by Gilead Sciences as part of an HIV cure strategy aimed at targeting and eliminating the latent viral reservoir. Elipovimab is a derivative of PGT121, another broadly neutralizing antibody against HIV. The drug was designed to enhance immune-mediated clearance of infected cells by improving Fc-mediated effector functions. Clinical studies demonstrated that elipovimab was generally safe and well tolerated in both HIV-negative participants and people with HIV. However, development for the treatment of HIV infections has been discontinued after reaching Phase I clinical trials[1][2][7][9].
