ELK-003

ELK-003 is an experimental biological drug developed by Eliksa Therapeutics as an eye drop formulation for treating ocular manifestations in patients with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), specifically dystrophic and junctional subtypes. The active ingredient is a standardized amniotic fluid secretome collected from screened donors during routine C-sections. Preclinical studies in mouse models suggest ELK-003 can accelerate corneal healing by more than 50% compared to placebo. The drug is currently in Phase 1 clinical trials, evaluating its safety and efficacy for reducing corneal abrasions and improving ocular health in EB patients. The mechanism of action involves a combination of trophic, anti-inflammatory, and regenerative effects due to the complex mixture of growth factors and proteins within the amniotic fluid secretome.
