Overview

ELPIS is an umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cell (UC-MSC) therapy developed by S-Evans Biosci (Huaxiayuan). It is specifically designed for the treatment of acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF), a life-threatening condition characterized by acute hepatic decompensation and intense systemic inflammation. ELPIS functions by leveraging the innate immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties of mesenchymal stem cells to mitigate the systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) that drives multi-organ failure in ACLF. Additionally, the therapy promotes liver tissue repair through the secretion of paracrine factors that stimulate hepatocyte regeneration and inhibit apoptosis. The product received Investigational New Drug (IND) approval from the China National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in 2021, marking a significant step in the clinical application of cell therapies for end-stage liver diseases.
