Elritercept (formerly KER-050) is an investigational recombinant fusion protein designed as a ligand trap to inhibit select members of the TGF-β superfamily, including Activin A, Activin B, Growth Differentiation Factor 8 (GDF8), and Growth Differentiation Factor 11 (GDF11). By binding these ligands, elritercept prevents them from signaling through activin receptors, which is believed to promote late-stage erythropoiesis and increase red blood cell production. Originally developed by Keros Therapeutics and licensed to Takeda, it is primarily being evaluated for the treatment of anemia in patients with very low-, low-, or intermediate-risk myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and myelofibrosis. The therapy is administered subcutaneously and aims to reduce the burden of red blood cell transfusions in patients with hematologic cancers.
