elsiglutide

Elsiglutide is a synthetic 39-amino acid glucagon-like peptide-2 (GLP-2) analogue developed for the prevention of chemotherapy-induced diarrhea. Upon subcutaneous administration, elsiglutide binds to GLP-2 receptors and promotes proliferation of intestinal epithelial cells, leading to antidiarrheal and intestinotrophic effects. It was investigated primarily as a supportive care therapy in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy to reduce gastrointestinal mucositis and diarrhea. The drug was originally developed by Zealand Pharma and later co-developed with Helsinn Healthcare; however, its development for this indication was discontinued after phase II trials[1][3][4][5].
