Overview

Elsilimomab is a murine (mouse-derived) monoclonal antibody that targets and inhibits interleukin-6 (IL-6), a cytokine involved in inflammatory and neoplastic processes. Developed initially by Diaclone and further by OPi (Orphan Pharma International), elsilimomab functions as an IL-6 inhibitor, aiming to interrupt signaling pathways relevant to various hematological malignancies. It was investigated in early-stage clinical development for lymphomas, multiple myeloma, and post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorders, but clinical programs for those indications were discontinued after phase 1/2 studies. Elsilimomab (B-E8) also served as the template for subsequent generation of fully human anti-IL-6 monoclonal antibodies such as OP-R003-1 (1339)[1][2][3][5][9].
