Overview

A combination therapy consisting of eltrombopag, a thrombopoietin receptor agonist (TPO-RA), and ianalumab, a fully human immunoglobulin G1 monoclonal antibody targeting the B-cell activating factor receptor (BAFF-R). Eltrombopag works by stimulating thrombopoietin receptors to increase platelet production, while ianalumab has a dual mechanism of action: depleting B cells through antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity and inhibiting B-cell functions via BAFF-R blockade. This combination is being investigated for the treatment of primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), particularly in patients who have failed first-line steroid treatment.
