Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Aevolode is a branded generic formulation of eltrombopag olamine, an orally active, small-molecule thrombopoietin receptor (TPO-R) agonist. Originally co-developed by Ligand Pharmaceuticals and GSK, and later transferred to Novartis, this generic version is marketed by Metrix Healthcare. Eltrombopag olamine interacts with the transmembrane domain of the human TPO receptor (c-Mpl), initiating intracellular signaling cascades via the JAK/STAT, AKT, and MAPK pathways. This stimulates the proliferation and differentiation of megakaryocytes from bone marrow progenitor cells, ultimately increasing platelet production. Aevolode is indicated for the treatment of thrombocytopenia in patients with chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) who have had an insufficient response to other treatments, thrombocytopenia in patients with chronic hepatitis C to allow for interferon-based therapy, and severe aplastic anemia.
