Overview

Eluvia is a drug-eluting vascular stent system developed by Boston Scientific, specifically designed for treating peripheral arterial disease (PAD) in the superficial femoral artery (SFA) and proximal popliteal artery. The system features a nitinol stent platform coated with a fluorinated copolymer that enables the controlled, sustained release of paclitaxel. Paclitaxel is an anti-proliferative drug that stabilizes microtubules, thereby inhibiting cell division and preventing neointimal hyperplasia, which is the primary cause of restenosis after stenting. Eluvia is notable for its ability to maintain therapeutic drug levels over an extended period, aiming to improve long-term vessel patency compared to traditional bare-metal stents or drug-coated balloons.
