eluxadoline

Eluxadoline is a small molecule medication used to treat irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D) in adults. It acts as a mixed mu-opioid receptor agonist and kappa-opioid receptor agonist, and as a delta-opioid receptor antagonist. Its primary mechanism involves reducing intestinal contractility and normalizing stress-induced acceleration of upper gastrointestinal transit. This results in decreased bowel activity and improved symptoms of abdominal pain and diarrhea[2][10][7]. Eluxadoline is available only by prescription.
