Elvitegravir + cobicistat + emtricitabine + tenofovir alafenamide is a fixed-dose combination antiretroviral medication used to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. It contains four active ingredients: - Elvitegravir, an integrase strand transfer inhibitor, blocks the HIV integrase enzyme and prevents viral DNA from integrating into the host genome. - Cobicistat acts as a pharmacokinetic enhancer by inhibiting cytochrome P450 3A enzymes, thereby increasing elvitegravir levels. - Emtricitabine and tenofovir alafenamide are nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) that inhibit HIV reverse transcriptase, blocking viral replication. This combination is indicated for adults and children with HIV who have not previously received antiretroviral therapy or as a replacement regimen in certain patients already on treatment.
