Overview

EMA601 is a humanized monoclonal antibody Fab fragment that targets platelet glycoprotein VI (GPVI), a key collagen receptor involved in platelet activation and thrombus formation. Developed as an anti-platelet agent, EMA601 binds with high affinity to a membrane-proximal epitope on GPVI, efficiently inhibiting its function both in vitro and in vivo. This inhibition prevents arterial thrombosis and reduces infarct size in preclinical models of ischemic stroke without increasing bleeding risk—a significant advantage over conventional antithrombotic agents. EMA601 demonstrates more than 50-fold greater potency compared to earlier GPVI inhibitors such as glenzocimab (ACT017). Its rapid urinary elimination and short half-life make it suitable for acute intervention rather than long-term prophylaxis. The drug was developed by EMFRET Analytics, with key research contributions from Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg[1][3][4][5][6][7][8].
