EMB-014 is an AI-optimized enzyme replacement therapy being developed by Embold Therapeutics to restore or augment glucocerebrosidase (GCase) function. The therapy utilizes an AI-driven platform to address the inherent limitations of natural human GCase, such as manufacturing difficulties, poor serum half-life, and rapid clearance. Mutations in the GBA1 gene, which encodes GCase, are the most significant genetic risk factor for Parkinson's disease and are the direct cause of Gaucher disease. EMB-014 is designed to cross the blood-brain barrier (CNS-delivered) to treat both GBA-associated and idiopathic Parkinson's disease, as well as neuronopathic and non-neuronopathic Gaucher disease. It is currently in the IND-enabling stage of development.
