Overview

Embella is an injectable formulation of deoxycholic acid developed as a minimally invasive treatment for localized adipose tissue, particularly unwanted submental fat and superficial lipomas. It employs the cytolytic properties of deoxycholic acid, a bile acid that disrupts adipocyte cell membranes, leading to adipocyte destruction and subsequent reduction of localized fat deposits, with the destroyed fat cleared via normal metabolic pathways.[3][5][7][9] Embella is being developed and manufactured by Espad Darou Pharmed (often cited as Espad Pharmed) and is under clinical evaluation in interventional, open-label trials for cosmetic and benign soft-tissue indications such as submental fat reduction and management of superficial lipomas.[3][5][7][9]
