Overview

Embrace Hydrogel Embolic System (HES) is an investigational, minimally invasive vascular embolization device developed for use in interventional radiology. It is designed to treat hypervascular tumors and control peripheral arterial bleeding by blocking blood flow within targeted vessels. The system consists of two liquid precursors—primarily water and polyethylene glycol (PEG)—that are simultaneously injected into blood vessels, where they rapidly solidify to form a soft hydrogel that fills the vessel lumen. This process achieves controlled, complete, and persistent embolization without the need for solvents or sizing to vessel diameter and eliminates the risk of catheter entrapment. Clinical studies have demonstrated technical success in embolizing both malignant and benign hypervascular tumors such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC), and angiomyolipoma (AML). Preclinical models also show efficacy in achieving hemostasis for various types of peripheral arterial bleeds[1][2][3][4][5][6][7].
