Overview

EMD 521873 (Selectikine) is a recombinant fusion protein immunocytokine that consists of a human antibody (NHS76) targeting necrotic DNA fused to a genetically modified human interleukin-2 (IL-2) moiety. The drug is designed to direct IL-2 activity specifically to tumor sites by binding exposed DNA in necrotic tumor regions. This targeted delivery aims to enhance anti-tumor immune responses while reducing systemic toxicity typically associated with IL-2 therapy. EMD 521873 was developed for the treatment of advanced solid tumors and hematological malignancies such as malignant melanoma and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Clinical studies demonstrated T-cell activation with limited NK cell activation and an improved safety profile compared to conventional IL-2 therapies[1][6][3].
