Emedine

Emedine (emedastine difumarate) is a second-generation, highly selective histamine H1 receptor antagonist developed by Alcon for the topical treatment of allergic conjunctivitis. Formulated as a 0.05% ophthalmic solution, it provides rapid relief from ocular symptoms such as itching, redness, and swelling by competitively blocking the binding of histamine to H1 receptors on conjunctival cells and blood vessels. Unlike some earlier antihistamines, emedastine has minimal effect on H2, dopaminergic, or adrenergic receptors, contributing to its favorable safety profile. It is typically administered twice daily to the affected eyes and is noted for its rapid onset of action in alleviating the ocular inflammatory response.
