Overview

Emerilis is a pharmaceutical medication containing tadalafil, a potent and selective inhibitor of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP)-specific phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5). It is a generic version of the brand-name drug Cialis and is primarily indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) in adult men. By inhibiting the PDE5 enzyme, tadalafil prevents the degradation of cGMP in the smooth muscle cells of the corpus cavernosum. This leads to prolonged smooth muscle relaxation and increased blood flow into the penile tissues, which facilitates an erection in response to sexual stimulation. Tadalafil is distinguished from other PDE5 inhibitors by its relatively long half-life, providing a duration of action of up to 36 hours. Emerilis is developed and marketed by Lek, a subsidiary of Sandoz (Novartis).
