Overview

Emfilermin is a recombinant form of human leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF), a cytokine and growth factor involved in cell differentiation, proliferation, and survival. It was developed primarily for reproductive health indications, including improving embryo implantation following in vitro fertilization (IVF) and embryo transfer (ET) in women with recurrent implantation failure. Emfilermin has also been investigated for the prevention or amelioration of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). The drug acts as an agonist at the LIF receptor, stimulating downstream signaling pathways that support endometrial receptivity and potentially modulate neural protection. Despite promising preclinical rationale, clinical trials did not demonstrate significant efficacy for its intended indications[1][3][5][7].
