Overview

eMHC-CARs refers to engineered Major Histocompatibility Complex Chimeric Antigen Receptors, a type of cell therapy in which T cells are genetically modified to express chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) that specifically recognize and target antigens presented by the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) on tumor or diseased cells. This approach is designed to enhance the immune system's ability to identify and destroy cancerous or otherwise abnormal cells. The mechanism of action involves redirecting T cell specificity and activity toward MHC-presented targets, potentially overcoming some limitations of traditional CAR-T therapies that target surface antigens only. eMHC-CARs are primarily being investigated for use in oncology, particularly for cancers where targeting intracellular antigens via MHC presentation may be advantageous.
