EMI-137 is a water-soluble, 26-amino acid cyclic peptide conjugated to a cyanine-based fluorescent dye. It specifically targets the human hepatocyte growth factor receptor (c-Met), which is overexpressed in various cancers. Upon intravenous administration, EMI-137 binds to c-Met-expressing cells and enables real-time fluorescence imaging during surgical procedures. This facilitates improved intraoperative visualization of tumors and potentially metastatic lymph nodes, aiming for more complete tumor resection and better surgical outcomes. The agent has been studied in several cancer types including colorectal, thyroid, breast, penile, tongue, orofacial cancers as well as Barrett’s esophagus for its diagnostic imaging capabilities[1][3][4][5][6][8].
