Emilimogene sigulactibac is a genetically engineered live biotherapeutic product based on *Limosilactobacillus reuteri* bacteria, modified to express and deliver the human chemokine CXCL12 (also known as stromal cell-derived factor 1, SDF-1) at the site of administration. It is being developed primarily for topical treatment of skin wounds, including those associated with STING-associated vasculopathy with onset in infancy (SAVI), diabetic foot ulcers, and other difficult-to-heal wounds. The drug acts by enhancing wound healing through local immunomodulation, collagen modulation, protein replacement effects, and antimicrobial activity against wound pathogens. Oral formulations are also under preclinical development for gastrointestinal indications such as colitis. Emilimogene sigulactibac represents a new-in-class gene therapy approach using engineered bacteria to deliver therapeutic proteins directly at disease sites[2][5][6][8].
