Overview

Emoxypine is a synthetic antioxidant and nootropic drug with a 3-hydroxypyridine structure similar to Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine). Its mechanism of action includes antioxidant and membranotropic effects, modulation of receptor functioning and membrane-bound enzymes, and restoration of neurotransmitter balance. Emoxypine exhibits a wide range of pharmacological effects at both neuronal and vascular levels, including antihypoxic, anti-ischemic, neuroprotective, nootropic, anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, cardioprotective, and anti-atherogenic properties. It improves cerebral circulation and microcirculation, and has the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier due to its small size and low molecular weight. Emoxypine has shown iron chelating properties in vitro, suggesting potential therapeutic applications in neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer's disease and hematologic disorders such as thalassemia and hemochromatosis.
