EMP1 small interfering RNA is an experimental RNA interference (RNAi) therapeutic designed to silence the expression of Epithelial Membrane Protein 1 (EMP1). EMP1 is a four-transmembrane glycoprotein involved in cell proliferation, adhesion, and apoptosis, and its overexpression is associated with poor prognosis and drug resistance in several cancers, including non-small cell lung cancer and glioblastoma. The siRNA works by binding to and promoting the degradation of EMP1 messenger RNA (mRNA) within the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), thereby preventing the translation of the EMP1 protein. Research indicates that knockdown of EMP1 can inhibit tumor cell migration, invasion, and proliferation, and may restore sensitivity to EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors in resistant cell lines.
