Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**EMP22** is a modified release formulation of orlistat (120 mg), a gastrointestinal lipase inhibitor designed for weight management. It works by reversibly inhibiting pancreatic and gastric lipases, preventing the hydrolysis of dietary triglycerides into absorbable free fatty acids and monoglycerides, thereby increasing fecal fat excretion and reducing caloric intake from fat. Developed by Empros Pharma, EMP22 is being evaluated in a Phase 1 crossover study (NCT06013163) comparing its pharmacodynamics (fecal fat excretion) to Xenical® (standard orlistat) in healthy volunteers, with TID dosing alongside main meals.[1][3]
