Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Empagliflozin + sacubitril + valsartan is a fixed-dose combination therapy developed by Althera Pharma for the treatment of heart failure. This oral small molecule combination integrates three complementary mechanisms of action: empagliflozin, a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor; sacubitril, a neprilysin inhibitor; and valsartan, an angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor blocker. By combining an SGLT2 inhibitor with an angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitor (ARNI), the formulation aims to provide comprehensive neurohormonal modulation and metabolic benefits to improve cardiovascular outcomes, such as reducing the risk of cardiovascular death and hospitalization for heart failure, while simplifying the treatment regimen for patients.
