Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a fixed-dose **combination therapy** containing *empagliflozin* (a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor), *vitamin D3* (cholecalciferol), and *vitamin K2* (menaquinone-7, MK-7). It is under clinical investigation for use in patients with **Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus** to improve glycemic control, lipid parameters, quality of life, and to address arterial calcification. Empagliflozin reduces blood glucose by inhibiting SGLT2 in the kidneys, thereby increasing urinary glucose excretion and providing cardiovascular and renal benefits. Vitamin D3 supports calcium and bone metabolism, and vitamin K2 (in MK-7 form) participates in the activation of proteins that regulate vascular calcification and bone mineralization. The combination aims to target multiple comorbidities in diabetes, including vitamin deficiencies prevalent in certain populations, and may provide synergistic improvements in diabetic outcomes. This combination is currently being evaluated in a multicenter, randomized controlled trial (VETA Trial) led by Scotmann Pharmaceuticals using formulations such as SunnyD PRO soft gel (vitamin D3 + K2) and empagliflozin (VORETA tablet)[1][2][3][4].
