Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Empagliform is a fixed-dose combination pharmaceutical product containing empagliflozin and metformin hydrochloride, developed for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Empagliflozin is a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor that reduces renal glucose reabsorption, thereby increasing urinary glucose excretion and lowering plasma glucose levels. Metformin, a biguanide, complements this by decreasing hepatic glucose production, reducing intestinal absorption of glucose, and improving insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. This specific formulation, produced by Hikma Pharma in Egypt, has been the subject of bioequivalence studies conducted by the Genuine Research Center to compare its pharmacokinetic profile with the reference product Synjardy.
