Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Emtricitabine + rilpivirine + tenofovir disoproxil fumarate is a once-daily, oral fixed-dose antiretroviral combination for treatment of **human immunodeficiency virus type 1 infection**. It combines emtricitabine, a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor; tenofovir disoproxil fumarate, an orally bioavailable prodrug of the nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor tenofovir; and rilpivirine, a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. The three agents inhibit HIV-1 reverse transcriptase through complementary active-site and allosteric mechanisms, suppressing viral replication. It is marketed by Gilead as Complera in the United States and Eviplera in Europe.
