Overview

Emtrifovir is a fixed-dose combination of emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate, two nucleoside/nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). Originally developed by Gilead Sciences under the brand name Truvada, this combination is marketed as a generic in Colombia by Humax and Farmatech (subsidiaries of Bausch Health). It is indicated for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in combination with other antiretroviral agents, as well as for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to reduce the risk of sexually acquired HIV-1 infection in high-risk individuals. Both active ingredients work synergistically to inhibit viral reverse transcriptase, thereby blocking viral replication and reducing viral load.
