Overview

Emuzomeran (MAFB-7566a, DS-5670) is an mRNA-based vaccine developed by Daiichi Sankyo for the prevention of COVID-19. It utilizes a proprietary lipid nanoparticle (LNP) delivery system to transport mRNA encoding the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein into host cells. Upon translation, the RBD protein is expressed, triggering an immune response, including the production of neutralizing antibodies and T-cell activation against the virus. It was the first domestically developed mRNA vaccine to be approved in Japan (under the brand name Daichirona) for use as a booster dose in adults.
