EMZ702

EMZ702 is an investigational antiviral agent developed by OPKO Health for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, specifically genotype 1. It was designed to be used in combination with pegylated interferon and ribavirin, targeting patients who were non-responsive to prior standard-of-care therapies. Preclinical studies indicated that EMZ702 possesses strong antiviral synergy with interferon, significantly enhancing its potency in surrogate models of hepatitis C. The drug was evaluated in a Phase 2a open-label, dose-escalation clinical trial (NCT00230854) where it was administered intravenously twice weekly. Despite showing a favorable safety profile and potential efficacy in early studies, development of EMZ702 was ultimately discontinued.
