Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Enavogliflozin + insulin is a combination therapy being developed by Daewoong Pharmaceutical for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Enavogliflozin is a novel, highly selective sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor that lowers blood glucose by blocking the reabsorption of glucose in the proximal tubules of the kidney, thereby increasing urinary glucose excretion. This mechanism is independent of insulin secretion and action. When used as an add-on therapy to insulin, enavogliflozin provides complementary glycemic control for patients whose diabetes is inadequately managed by insulin alone or in combination with other oral antidiabetic drugs. Phase 3 clinical trials have demonstrated that the addition of enavogliflozin to insulin therapy significantly reduces HbA1c levels, fasting plasma glucose, and body weight, while also allowing for a reduction in the total daily dose of insulin required.
