Overview

DWJ1622 is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) therapy being developed by Daewoong Pharmaceutical for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It consists of enavogliflozin, a selective sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, and sitagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor. Enavogliflozin works by reducing renal glucose reabsorption, thereby increasing urinary glucose excretion and lowering blood glucose levels. Sitagliptin works by inhibiting the degradation of incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP), which stimulates insulin secretion and suppresses glucagon release in a glucose-dependent manner. The combination aims to provide synergistic glycemic control by targeting two distinct pathways of glucose regulation. Enavogliflozin is the first SGLT2 inhibitor developed in South Korea, and DWJ1622 is part of Daewoong's strategy to expand its diabetes portfolio.
