Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Encapsulated frozen microbiota is an investigational live biotherapeutic product consisting of oral capsules containing frozen fecal microbiota derived from healthy, screened multiple donors. It is being developed by the Friedrich-Schiller Universität Jena (Jena University Hospital) for the treatment of mild to moderate active ulcerative colitis. The therapy aims to restore the disrupted intestinal microbial community (gut dysbiosis) associated with the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease. It is currently being evaluated in the Phase III FRESCO trial (NCT03843385), where it is compared against a sterile stool filtrate and placebo to assess its efficacy in inducing clinical remission.
