ENCEVAC is an inactivated, Vero cell-derived vaccine developed by Boryung Pharmaceutical (specifically Boryung Biopharma) for the prevention of Japanese encephalitis. As the first cell-culture-based Japanese encephalitis vaccine developed in South Korea, it represents a shift away from traditional mouse brain-derived vaccines, offering improved safety and manufacturing consistency. The vaccine works by introducing inactivated Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) antigens to the body, which stimulates the immune system to produce specific neutralizing antibodies. It is typically administered to children as part of a multi-dose primary and booster series to maintain long-term immunogenicity. Recent clinical focus, including Phase 4 trials, has evaluated the safety and efficacy of booster doses in pediatric populations to ensure sustained protection against the virus.
