Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Endofalk is an osmotic bowel cleansing preparation developed and marketed by Dr. Falk Pharma. It is a combination product containing macrogol 3350 (polyethylene glycol) and a balanced mixture of electrolytes, including sodium chloride, potassium chloride, and sodium bicarbonate. The drug is administered orally as a solution to induce diarrhea, effectively cleansing the gastrointestinal tract prior to colonoscopy or other diagnostic procedures. Macrogol 3350 acts as an osmotic agent that retains water in the bowel, increasing stool volume and stimulating intestinal motility. The inclusion of electrolytes makes the solution isotonic, which helps prevent significant shifts in fluid and electrolyte balance, thereby improving patient safety and tolerability compared to non-isotonic preparations.
