Endometrial regenerative cell therapy is an allogeneic cell-based treatment developed by Medistem, utilizing mesenchymal-like stem cells (ERCs) derived from menstrual blood. These cells are characterized by their high proliferative capacity, lack of immunogenicity, and ability to secrete significant levels of angiogenic growth factors and matrix metalloproteases. The therapy is primarily investigated for the treatment of chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLI), where it aims to induce angiogenesis and modulate inflammatory responses to restore blood flow in patients who are ineligible for standard revascularization procedures. While a specific variant, ERC-124, was previously explored as an interferon gamma receptor (IFNGR) antagonist for conditions such as heart failure and type 1 diabetes, those programs were discontinued, leaving the CLI application as the primary focus of the platform.
