Overview

Endostatin antibody is an experimental monoclonal antibody designed to neutralize endostatin, a 20-kDa C-terminal fragment of type XVIII collagen (encoded by Col18a1). Endostatin serves as a potent endogenous inhibitor of angiogenesis. In neonatal lung development, elevated levels of endostatin are associated with impaired microvascular expansion and alveolarization, contributing to conditions such as bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and alveolar capillary dysplasia (ACD). By blocking endostatin activity, the antibody promotes pulmonary endothelial cell signaling and capillary network formation. Preclinical research from Stanford University and UCSF indicates that endostatin antibody treatment can preserve or restore vascular density and alveolar structure in hyperoxia-induced neonatal lung injury models, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic strategy for infants at risk of BPD.
