Overview

Endothelial outgrowth cells (EOCs) are a specialized subset of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) derived from peripheral blood that exhibit high proliferative capacity and the ability to differentiate into mature, functional endothelial cells. Developed as a potential regenerative therapy by the University of Edinburgh, these cells are culture-expanded and, in specific clinical research settings, labeled with 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) to facilitate tracking via PET-CT imaging. The primary therapeutic objective is to treat vascular injury, such as that sustained during coronary angiography and stenting, by promoting rapid re-endothelialization and vascular repair at the site of arterial damage.
