Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Enefluid is a peripheral parenteral nutrition (PPN) solution developed and marketed by **Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory**. It is a combination product containing glucose, amino acids, electrolytes, and Vitamin B1 (thiamine). Enefluid is specifically designed to provide nutritional support to patients who cannot obtain sufficient nutrition orally or enterally. It is the first PPN solution in Japan to incorporate Vitamin B1, which is essential for carbohydrate metabolism and helps prevent complications such as Wernicke's encephalopathy and lactic acidosis that can occur when glucose is administered to thiamine-deficient patients. In clinical practice, it is also utilized for intradialytic parenteral nutrition (IDPN) to treat malnutrition in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis.
