Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Enefrid is a parenteral nutrition solution developed by Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory specifically for intradialytic parenteral nutrition (IDPN) in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) undergoing hemodialysis. It is a combination product containing glucose, a balanced mixture of essential and non-essential amino acids, and electrolytes. Enefrid is designed to be administered directly into the venous line of the dialysis circuit during a hemodialysis session, addressing protein-energy wasting (PEW) and malnutrition in patients whose oral intake is insufficient. By providing these nutrients during the dialysis procedure, it helps maintain or improve the nutritional status of patients without requiring additional fluid volume administration outside of the dialysis session, which is critical for fluid-restricted renal patients.
