Engeletin (also known as engelitin or dihydrokaempferol 3-rhamnoside) is a natural flavanonol glycoside primarily isolated from the rhizomes of *Smilax china* L. and other plant species. It is recognized for its potential therapeutic applications in metabolic disorders, particularly obesity and related inflammatory conditions. The mechanism of action for engeletin involves the stimulation of the browning process in white adipocytes, transforming them into thermogenic beige-like adipocytes. This effect is primarily mediated through the activation of the **Beta-3 adrenergic receptor (β3-AR)** and the **AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK)** signaling pathways. Activation of these pathways leads to the up-regulation of key thermogenic and mitochondrial proteins, including **uncoupling protein 1 (UCP-1)**, **PGC-1α**, and **PRDM16**, while also promoting lipolysis and fatty acid β-oxidation. Beyond its metabolic effects, engeletin has demonstrated antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties in various preclinical models.
