Engerix-B + Twinrix

Engerix-B + Twinrix refers to the co-administration or combination of two vaccines developed by GSK. Engerix-B is a monovalent recombinant vaccine that provides active immunization against infection caused by all known subtypes of the hepatitis B virus. It contains purified surface antigen (HBsAg) produced in genetically engineered Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast cells and adsorbed onto aluminum hydroxide as an adjuvant[2][6]. Twinrix is a bivalent combination vaccine containing both inactivated hepatitis A virus (strain HM175) and the same recombinant HBsAg component as Engerix-B. The antigens are separately adsorbed onto aluminum salts before being pooled during formulation[3][4][5]. Both vaccines induce specific antibodies that confer protection against their respective viruses—anti-HAV for hepatitis A and anti-HBs for hepatitis B[5]. The mechanism of action is immunization via induction of humoral immune response to viral antigens, conferring immunity to both HAV and HBV infections.
